Franschhoek Guest Suite

This project in Franschhoek involved the design and construction of a custom balcony deck and staircase for a private guest suite, created to enhance both functionality and the overall guest experience. The elevated deck provides a comfortable outdoor area to relax and take in the surrounding views, while the staircase offers safe and convenient access to the garden below.

For this build, we used H3-treated pine decking boards, selected for their durability and resistance to moisture and outdoor conditions. The substructure was constructed using pressure-treated structural pine beams and joists, securely anchored with galvanized brackets and coach screws to ensure long-term stability and strength. Stainless steel screws were used throughout the decking installation to prevent corrosion and maintain a clean finish over time. The staircase was carefully framed and reinforced, complete with sturdy stringers, risers, and matching pine treads to create a seamless flow from the balcony to ground level.

To complete the project, the entire deck and staircase were finished with a high-quality teak sealant. This not only enhances the natural grain and warmth of the timber but also provides added protection against weathering and UV exposure. The final result is a solid, well-crafted outdoor structure that blends beautifully with the charm and character of the guest suite while offering durability and timeless appeal.
